We Need You!
Our railway needs you! If you have time to spare and have an interest in railways large or small, why not come and join our team.
Whether your into Guarding, Signalling, Driving or even gardening there is always something to do.
Can you volunteer?
Would you like to help? We are looking for volunteers, to help with station duties, signalling and driving.
Faversham Miniature Railway is run solely by a small group of dedicated volunteers. Although the railway is only open on Sundays, Bank Holidays and festivals, our volunteers can often be found working on the railway.
We are always looking for more volunteers who would like to get involved. Whether you wish to be a driver, guard, signalman or just help with the maintenance, you will always be greeted by a fun and friendly group of volunteers who just wish to share their experience, time and their railway.
If you can help we are looking for volunteers to become:
Do you want to drive a rare 9” Gauge Train?
Well at FMR we are looking for volunteers who would like to drive our locos. If you are over 18 and want to drive, why not come and volunteer at FMR. Once passed out as a guard and Signalman our team will help train capable and willing volunteers to drive our Locos.
During busy weekends and events FMR can quite often require the use of Platform Hands. This role is perfect for those who are too young or just don’t wish to ride a train all day.
Our Platform Hands are responsible for the safety of passengers waiting for trains, clipping tickets and safely loading the trains.
If you’re over 16 you could train to be a guard and help look after the safety of the passengers on one of the FMR trains.
Our Guards learn how to couple the rolling stock, manage our sector table and maintain a safe environment for our passengers.
Most won’t agree, but our most vital role is our engineers, without these dedicated volunteers there would be no railway to volunteer at.
Unfortunately no matter how much time they offer there is never enough. If you can help there is a place for you, whether it’s carpentry, mechanics, electronics or a bit of everything our team needs you.
FMR has two signal boxes, with fully working full scale lever frames, rescued and restored by our volunteers.
As a Signalman, volunteers get to manage the flow of the railway, our Signalmen are a vital part of our railway, allowing FMR to run as many as 4 trains safely around our circuit.
In fact if you have any skills and would like to help you are more than welcome. We have volunteers who work on the website, marketing, computers and more… So if you have time there is always a place for you at FMR.
If you would like to help, why not pop along to the railway any Sunday and speak to our volunteers who will be happy to answer any questions you might have.
